Made and exhibited at Research-Residency at S1 in Portland Oregon

A table set up with 5 objects sourced from a local Portland, OR thrift stores: a sound mixer, a synthesizer, speakers, and a set of instructions. The objects were paired with electromagnetic contact mics and at each edge of the table were a set of instructions. Visitors could interact with the objects and microphones.

The electromagnetic microphones picked up electromagnetic waves in the objects. These sounds could be heard from the speakers as visitors tested them out. The participants took the project into their own hands, trying things I had not thought of, including using the mics on their iPhones.

    I'm interested in objects of obsolescence - their life cycles, the places they live, and the places they die. Here, I took the opportunity to focus on the sounds associated with my material interests while working with the facilities and library at S1 - as well as resale stores in the Portland area. On Dec 14th, 1 share my research and invite you to be part of the sighting.
